Sustainable Aquaculture, Australia Awards in Indonesia-Short Term Award

Australia Awards is seeking applications from people who work in the aquaculture sector

and would like to develop their knowledge and skills in aquaculture through attending the

Sustainable Aquaculture Short Term Award. The course explores sustainable aquaculture

practices, systems and policies and the latest research and technologies in aquaculture

operations. 


To apply for this course, you must be:

• Working at the following organizations:

        Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP)

        Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investments (Kemenko

Kemaritiman dan Investasi) 

        Ministry of National Planning (Bappenas)  

        Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (Kemenkop UKM) 

        Universities 

        Private Companies and Associations 

        Provincial Government 

        NGOs  

• Staff to Echelon II level (government representatives)

• Manager level with at least 3 years of professional experience in aquaculture

(private sector candidates)

• Preferably a Bachelor’s degree with minimum D3 level qualification in relevant field

• Holder of an ID card (KTP)

• Endorsed by your current Manager/Supervisor

• Committed to prepare and to implement an Award Project as part of the course 

• Professional working proficiency in English. The course will be delivered in English.

Key Dates:

• A 3-day pre-course workshop in Indonesia (venue TBC): 7 – 9 April 2020

• A 2-week short course in Australia: 8 – 19 June 2020 (including classroom sessions,

case studies and site visits. Depart on 5 June, return on 21 June 2020). 

• A 3-day post-course workshop in Indonesia (venue TBC): 6 - 8 October 2020   

Learning objectives  

Sustainable Aquaculture 

The course learning objectives are participants’ improved skills and ability to:

• Understand the environmental and operational aspects of sustainable aquaculture 

• Identify and develop policies and regulations that support sustainable aquaculture 

• Identify ways to influence smallholders’ behavior and decision-making to support

more sustainable aquaculture practices 

• Identify and understand the systems and technologies used in aquaculture

• Identify and understand strategic best practices and policies to manage the

carrying capacity of aquaculture areas  

• Identify problems in broodstock management and inter-agency coordination in 

managing broodstock supply 

• Identify gaps/challenges in aquaculture supply, including production management,

data management for aquaculture supply and managing more sustainable yield

• Identify and understand strategies for fish seed management 

• Understand water and ecosystem management to support sustainable

aquaculture in the fresh, brackish and marine water contexts 

• Identify alternative solutions in feeding and nutrition production in aquaculture that

hamper cultivation of high-quality fisheries products

• Understand typical diseases and pathogens that affect tropical aquaculture

species (fish and crustaceans) and identify suitable diagnostic aids, biosecurity

measures and disease control techniques 

• Explore Australian certification for aquaculture products

• Improve food safety, fish handling procedures, hazard analysis and health

certificates 

• Benchmark Australian supply chain management for aquaculture products (case

studies)

 

This is a fully-funded scholarship. The tuition fee, airfare ticket, accommodation, local

transport, visa, and insurance will be covered by the Australia Awards in Indonesia.
