YOUR POSITION WITH TNC
The Sustainable Practices Senior Manager provides leadership and supervision of
all aspects in promoting responsible use of coastal and marine resources and
fair shared responsibility of producers and consumer in restoring and
protecting the ecosystems.
Essential Functions
1. Develop the business plan and program strategic plan for blue economy development portfolio, covering responsible aquaculture, fisheries value added products, ecotourism, marine biotechnology, and blue carbon finance program.
2. Improve community’s livelihoods practices to meet the globally recognized standard/certification for environmental and social sustainability.
3. Identify and establish market link for products and services from community’s sustainable practices.
4. Work together with relevant TNC and YKAN teams in identifying and evaluating funding opportunities, drafting project proposals, donor reports, both for public and private sources
5. Assist IOP Director in undertaking management responsibilities as necessary related to blue economy, such as develop key materials for meetings and conference, put together and feed necessary information to the Program Development and Learning unit.
6. Assist the IOP Director in staff management of the sustainable practices, including team building, assessing capacity gaps and capacity building needs, and developing strategies to address them in collaboration with HRD.
7. The Sustainable Practices Senior Manager reports to the Indonesia Oceans Program Director and is based in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Responsibilities And Scope
1. Geographic size and scope is that of a larger, complex business unit and/or a program that requires cross-boundary work and relationships.
2. Establishes and maintains optimal performance standards within budget.
3. Contributes in writing for requests for proposal (RFPs) for grant/contract funding for program.
4. Frequently makes independently strategic decision based on analysis, ambiguous information and judgment.
5. Negotiates complex agreements, in a political environment.
6. May be responsible for leading or co-leading a whole system program.
7. Frequent travel domestically and/or internationally, evening and weekend hours.
8.
May work in variable weather conditions, at
remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically
demanding circumstances.
Minimum Qualifications
1. BA/BS degree and 7 years’ experience in conservation and community-based economy practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Experience in coastal community livelihoods improvement activities.
3. Established networks with marine products industries and associations,
4. Fundraising experience, including identifying donor prospects and donor cultivation
5. Experience managing complex or multiple projects, including managing finances and coordinating the work of other professionals and partners.
6. Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance.
7. Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups and/or government agencies.
8.
Experience negotiating.
Desired Qualifications
1. Master’s degree and 7 - 10 years’ experience in coastal and marine resources livelihoods, business, economy and conservation practices or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Familiar with global standard for sustainable practices in fisheries, aquaculture, tourism.
3. Good understanding in small-scale enterprise financing and marketing.
4. Knowledge in blue carbon or carbon financing is an asset.
5. Experience developing good governance and sustainable financing frameworks and systems and building the capacity of local institutional to manage natural resources.
6. Knowledge of/Experience working with current trends and practices in fisheries and marine conservation and Asia-Pacific region.
7. Demonstrated experience influencing, developing and implementing conservation policy and plans.
8. Developing practical applications of scientific concepts and technical innovations for conservation purposes.
9. Knowledge of methods and standards of biodiversity information systems and initiatives.
10. Motivating team members, setting goals, and leading efforts.
11. Delivering practical, adaptable products and services to customers.
12. Knowledge of politics and society with respect to environmental affairs.
13. Managing time and diverse activities under deadlines while delivering quality results.
14. Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
15. Demonstrated success as an inspirational manager who has successfully motivated staff to achieve and sustain excellence.
16. Demonstrated leadership and visionary qualities and able to work effectively with and through others in a decentralized and geographically dispersed organization.
17. Extensive networking with high-level conservation contacts; political savvy.
18.
Proven interpersonal, communication, and
negotiation skills.
